Infinity Ward has teased its next Modern Warfare 2 map, though maybe not where you’d expect.
Releasing a sneak peek via TikTok, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s latest multiplayer map is called Farm 18. There isn’t a huge amount to watch here, Tiktok videos only provide a few seconds of gameplay, so we’d recommend tempering expectations. Instead, this video talks to two developers detailing the team’s motivations for the new map.
First up is Geoffrey Smith, Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer design director. Telling us that Farm 18 draws inspiration from the shoothouse map of Modern Warfare, says that the team sought to use the “industrial cement factory” to introduce “hidden training facilities”. As such, Farm 18 has a central warehouse which will serve as the center of action.
The video then plays on Ashley Thundercliffe, a senior environmental artist. For its segment, Thundercliffe explains how the team balanced the realism of the map without compromising on the gameplay. “If we go too dense with foliage, we have people hiding in the corners. If we don’t go dense enough, we don’t sell the story of overgrowth,” he confirms.
This is only a brief teaser, but if you’re interested in watching, you can do so via the official Call of Duty Twitter page below:

not long until beta
Activision is slowly gearing up for a big multiplayer reveal with its latest entry. Along with the reveal of Farm 18, news broke last week that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer was getting an open beta. Participants can experience the multiplayer mode over two consecutive weekends and if you pre-ordered it, it comes with two days of early access before it goes live.
Of course, the beta is disappointing news for Xbox players. The first weekend starting September 16th is exclusively for PS4 and PS5 players. If you’re buying Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, or PC, it’s only available on the second weekend starting September 22.
Right now, we don’t know much about what’s included in this beta, but we don’t have long to wait. Activision has confirmed that it will host Call of Duty: Next (opens in new tab)An upcoming presentation that will shed light on Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Specific times are currently unconfirmed, but it will air on September 16.
