Bethesda has clarified that no new Starfield gameplay will be shown at Gamescom later this month, after mistakenly exciting fans with the suggestion of a fresh reveal.
Some Starfield fans were skeptical that the highly anticipated RPG would be shown at Gamescom 2022 after its first in-depth trailer was revealed at Summer Game Fest earlier this year. a Bethesda blog post (opens in new tab) Briefly fueled those hopes, the sci-fi RPG’s promising gameplay will be on tap for attendees.
while the starfield subreddit (opens in new tab) The announcement was quick to jump on, their celebration a bit premature. Bethesda has updated the post to confirm that the Starfield gameplay shown at Gamescom will be like nothing we haven’t seen before.
The updated post reads, “Check out a replay of Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase gameplay presentations for Redfall and Starfield.” “Of course, we also have some surprises and gifts for you.”
a long time to wait
It may just take a while before you get a chance to catch your eye on any of Starfield’s latest content. Gamescom will be the final global gaming convention of the year, and neither Xbox nor Bethesda has announced any independent showcases for the final months of 2022. Opportunities for the release of new Starfield gameplay are rapidly dwindling as the year comes to an end.
Bethesda fans are unlikely to be left out to dry completely. While new Starfield gameplay may be hard to come by, we expect more details and information about the game to be revealed during Gamescom. There are plenty of features, including RPG’s indie-inspired space combat, or how FTL travel works in the game.
The “surprises and gifts” the publisher has are anyone’s guess, but they may offer a glimpse into the wider world of Starfield. So far, we only know of one companion to the game — VASCO, a bipedal robot — and we’ve picked up on some vague clues that an old Elder Scrolls feature is making a return.
Starfield is set for release in 2023, although a leak on Xbox Game Pass has significantly shortened its release window.
