Buckingham Palace announces details of Queen’s funeral service


A two-minute nationwide silence will be observed shortly before Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral service ends on Monday, palace officials have revealed.

Buckingham Palace also said Queen Elizabeth II’s children would keep a vigil around her coffin on Friday evening as their guard at St Giles’ Cathedral in Scotland earlier this week.

King Charles III will be joined by Princess Anne and Princes Andrew and Edward around the coffin, which currently lies in state within Westminster Hall in London.

The palace also revealed that the king will host a reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace on Sunday before the state funeral.

The Queen died a week ago at the age of 96 at her country home in Balmoral Castle, Scotland.

The palace outlined what to expect during Monday’s formal events for the late monarch at a briefing on Thursday.

At approximately 10:35 a.m. (5:35 a.m. ET) on the day of the funeral, the coffin will be lifted from the Catafalque, where it is laid to rest by a carrier party set up by the Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, and taken to the Palace. A senior official said that a procession was taken out from the hall to the State Gun Carriage of the Royal Navy.

Gun carriages have also been used for the funerals of past monarchs, including King Edward VII, King George V, King George VI. It was also used for the funerals of the Queen’s first prime minister, Winston Churchill, and her cousin, Lord Louis Mountbatten.

In keeping with past tradition, the gun carriage will start at 10:44 a.m. (5:44 a.m. ET) and will be manned by 142 Royal Naval Ratings, who are service personnel, according to a senior palace official.

It will then process the short journey from New Palace Yard to Westminster Abbey, which will be lined by the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines. The procession will be led largely by Scottish and Irish regiments of Pipes and Drums, a brigade of Gurkhas and the Royal Air Force, with a total of 200 musicians.

The King, members of the Royal Family, and members of both the families of the Monarch and the Prince of Wales will walk directly behind the coffin.

For the visit, the coffin will be flanked by the Bearer Party, pallbearers set up from service equestrians to the Queen, The King’s Body Guards of the Honorable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, the Yeomen of the Guard, and the Royal Company, in addition to the Royal Company. of archers.

The service will be operated at Westminster Abbey by the Rev. David Hoyle, Dean of Westminster, beginning at 11 a.m. (6 a.m. ET).

Britain’s Prime Minister Liz Truss and Commonwealth Secretary General, Patricia Scotland, will read the text. Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby will deliver a sermon.

At the end of the service, at approximately 11:55 AM (6:55 AM ET), the final post will be heard before a two-minute silence.

The state funeral will be concluded by the Queen’s Piper, who will play a revel, the national anthem and a lament at noon (7 a.m.).
