How to Check Notification History on Your Android Phone

You can check your missed notifications without switching between apps

Like Inbox Zero on Gmail and Outlook, you may prefer to keep your Android phone’s notification center clean. Dismissing notifications gives a sense of accomplishment, but you might miss important alerts in the process. Did you accidentally dismiss a promotional alert from a Shopping app or a comment on a Google Docs document? You don’t need to open the app to check missed alerts. You can find it in the Notification History menu in Settings. We’ll cover the steps for the best Samsung Galaxy phones running standard Android UI and One UI.

Enable and Check Notification History on Android

Many OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) disable notification history on their Android offerings. Follow the steps below to enable it.

  1. Swipe up from the homescreen to open the app drawer menu.
  2. find and open Adjustment app (it looks like a gear icon).
  3. Open Notifications,
  4. to select notification history,

  5. enable Use Notification History Toggle on from the following menu.

You can now dismiss any alert from the Notification Center. The same alert will appear in the notification history menu.

Enable and check notification history on Samsung Galaxy phones

Samsung uses a different Android skin called One UI. The steps to enable and check notification history on Samsung Galaxy phones are different.

  1. Swipe up from homescreen and open Adjustment (with a gear icon).
  2. scroll Notifications,
  3. Open advanced settings from the following menu.

  4. to select notification history,
  5. enable notification history toggle.

  6. Swipe down from the top to open Notification Center. Dismiss any app alert and check it from the Notification History menu.

Notification history shows alerts in chronological order, with the most recent being at the top. However, the system does not provide any way to place the notification history shortcut on the homescreen for easy access.

Disable Notification History on Android

Notification History does not come with any biometric security. Anyone with access to your phone can go to Settings and check your notifications for the last 24 hours. Sometimes, you don’t want the system to save confidential information from apps like Signal or Telegram. Since there is no way to disable notification history for individual apps, you will need to disable the function completely.

  1. Open Adjustment and go notification history Menu (see steps above).
  2. disable notification history Toggle on and confirm your decision.

The option deletes your notification history. You can re-enable it to start keeping your history again, but the system will not restore your current notification history.

Never miss an important message on your phone

Keeping up with notifications can be a hassle, but Android gives you a lot of flexibility when it comes to dealing with them. You can remind any notification and deal with it later, or simply use Turn on Do Not Disturb Mode.
