Ludhiana: 3 mobiles, tobacco recovered from jail : The Tribune India

Three mobile phones and chewable tobacco have been recovered in separate cases after a surprise check in the Central Jail. In one case, the jail staff caught the father of a prisoner who had come to give tobacco to his son.

In the first case, the police have registered a case against two prisoners and recovered two mobile phones and 30 grams of tobacco from them. The accused have been identified as Karamjit Singh and Jobanpreet. A case was registered against him under the Jail Act yesterday.

In another case, the jail personnel recovered 10 sachets of tobacco and a mobile phone. From jail inmate Sunny Kumar. Assistant Jail Superintendent Kashmir Lal said that a mobile phone and tobacco were recovered from prisoner Sunny Kumar during a surprise inspection. He said that the source who arranged the objectionable items inside the jail is being questioned. He informed that yesterday a case was registered against the prisoner under the Jail Act.

In another case, the police arrested Biru Ram of Bajigar Basti and recovered tobacco from him from the jail premises. The assailant jail superintendent Surinder Kumar said the accused had come to meet his son Ram Ratan, an undertrial, and handed him some clothes. “Tobacco was recovered when the jail staff checked the clothes. We immediately informed the police and Biru Ram was arrested. A case has been registered against him.”
