A much more powerful Apple M2 chip could launch later this year

When Apple showed off the M2 chip at WWDC on June 6, it didn't get a lot of attention, but that was just a sneak peek at something better.

There are rumours that a new 3nm M2 Pro chip is in the works, and it could come out as soon as this fall.

DigiTimes, a trade magazine, says that an M2 Pro chip and an M3 chip are in the works.

They are 3nm in size, and TSMC beat out Samsung to get the contract to make the new Apple silicon.

DigiTimes says that new MacBook Pros coming out in October will have the 3nm M2 chip.

At WWDC on June 6, Apple showed off the M2 chip, which had the same 5nm size as 2020's M1 chip.

Mark Gurman, a journalist in the industry, says that later this year, several new Mac computers will come with a 3nm M2 Pro chip and an M2 Max chip.

Gurman also predicted a 3nm M2 chip for a mixed-reality headset. The smartphone will have 16 GB of RAM and run Apple's realityOS.

3nm chips are faster and use less electricity. Apple might cut MacBook size without sacrificing power or thermals.
