Overwatch 2 will replace the original Overwatch

Blizzard said in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit that the two games will become one on October 4.

The original Overwatch is running out of time. In an Ask Me Anything (AMA) on Reddit last week, Blizzard said that when Overwatch 2 comes out on October 4,

It will overwrite Overwatch Prime, which means that the six-year-old game will be over.

"When OW2 comes out on October 4, it will replace the live service we have now," wrote Aaron Keller, who is in charge of the game.

Even though the change will add a lot of new content like new heroes, maps, and more, classic Overwatch will no longer exist.

The 6v6 format will be gone, and the assault game type will be moved to a less popular area of the game called "custom games."

The news was a bit of a shock because Overwatch prime and Overwatch 2 were both supposed to be around at the same time.

During the Overwatch 2 panel at BlizzCon 2019, Aaron Keller, the game's current director, and Jeff Kaplan,

The former game director who left Blizzard more than a year ago, talked about a scenario in which players who upgraded to OW2 could still play with those who hadn't.
